October 2005 Newsletter - September - 25 - 2005

Hi Everyone,

Well, another month has flown by and the studio is getting busier by the day.  There are lots of fun things coming up at the studio for October so I will get right to it....

First of all thank you to everyone who attended our September Guest Party and also for bringing guests to the studio!  The event had a fun, relaxed feel to it and everyone helped out so well in making all the guests feel welcome.  We appreciate how great you guys are.

We would also like to mention how successful our workshop was with our visiting coach Lola Valair.  Lola is a superb dancing coach with a unique ability to draw out the dancer in everyone.  Some students also took the option to have a private coaching with Lola as well.  Watch for future opportunities in the school with Lola and other travelling coaches we will be bringing into the school.

Medal Ball 2005 - Saturday, October 8
This is coming up very soon at the beginning of the month.  Medal Ball is one of 2 major events for our area (along with Showcase in the spring).  It's a full day of performance routines and dancing and serves as a graduation event for all those who pass the different levels in the syllabus, known as "medals".

This year's Medal Ball will be held at the Westin Bayshore in downtown Vancouver (Coal Harbour) near Stanley Park.
The schedule is being finalized and should run as follows:

10am - 5pm  Student couple and student/teacher demonstrations.
There are many levels performed and many different styles of dances.   Lunch will be  served midday.  Designed as a 'come and go' sort of format for all spectators and participants along with general dancing breaks throughout the day.  It's a great chance to get up and "strut your stuff", come to watch and get some ideas for your own dancing or just show some support for your fellow students or anyone you know who is dancing.

5pm - 7pm   Break

7pm - 7:30pm  Cocktail Party.
The beginning of an elegant evening with dress code anywhere from semi-formal to black tie.  A chance to mingle and chat with everyone and share your successes or misadventures of the day.

7:30pm - 12:00am  Dinner, General Dancing, Medalist demos and Staff Show.
A full-service dinner in the great company of fellow students and guests.  General dancing will follow all through the evening with short student demonstrations of their medalist material by those who graduated over the past year.  The staff show will round out the evening with performances from all three of the Lower Mainland schools.

We already have a nice sized group going and it should prove to be a fun event for all.  Ask your teacher about ways to be involved - this is the first time the Coquitlam/Tri-Cities school is going to be attending and we want the other schools to have a chance to meet you!

October Guest Party - October 22
Another chance to bring someone you know in to see the studio.  There will be a similar format as before including a guest lesson, general dancing, spotlights and staff demos.

Halloween Party - Friday October 28
Join us for our first Halloween Party at the studio.  Costume is optional [but please wear something] and be prepared for some Ghoulish Guests as fellow participants.
There are some surprises in store for everyone who dares to show up for the evening.  This is going to be a fun evening you shouldn't miss, we have all been plotting and planning this party for weeks already...

We are hoping to include at least one theme party to liven up our November slate of events as well.  Watch for details in the next newsletter...

In Conclusion
We are so excited to be attending the Medal Ball for the first time this year with the students from our new school - we hope you can share this with us.

There is also some possibility that we may be setting up a children's program later in the fall and we are currently looking into the logistics of that, as we have been asked by many students who are parents and others in the local community.

Please remember any feedback is welcomed, and any pictures you might want to put up on the website are welcomed as well.  September didn't end up being a very wonderful picture taking month, but October promises to be great on that front...

Until next time, Happy Dancing and see you at the studio!
